Steering Committee March 2017

Meeting Minutes GBA Steering Committee 3/8/2017
In Attendance: Jessica Taylor, Lorilee Wagner, Mike Booth, Janet Hovorka
Next Meeting 4/12/2017 11am MST
GBA RootsTech contest – things to consider next time:
• It would help to be more specific about prizes and make the reason for signing up really clear
• It may work better in conferences with smaller vendor’s halls
• Greater incentive to companies for pushing sign-ups/participation
• Consider not asking for email addresses
• Consider an in-person giveaway
• Consider a game such as Bingo or Goose Chase app (scavenger hunt)
• Benefits to the drawing include driving traffic to booths, building an email list, and identifying community players/lending legitimacy. We can work on these benefits in different ways.
Best practices doc:
• Janet will contact Mike Provard about FamilySearch endorsement.
• It was discussed and decided that it makes the most sense for endorsement to come from companies rather than other entities participating in GBA
• Janet will publish it at genealogybusinessalliance.org with logos of companies that have signed off so far (Ancestry, FamilySearch, RootsMagic, Family ChartMasters, genealogyDOTcoach, Legacy Tree Genealogists).
• Janet will post the link in the GBA Facebook group and ask for others to also endorse (they’ll email her logos).
• GBA steering committee will meet Apr 12th at 11 am MST to consider who else should be approached to endorse the doc.
• When changes need to be made, we’ll probably email endorsers with a deadline to bring up any issues they have with proposed changes.

Going forward:
• Discussion ensued about providing business education. When the facebook group was surveyed, the highest responses were for webinars. The committee felt that business webinars were already plentiful.
• Consensus was that there were no other pressing ideas that needed action, but that when another idea came up, the committee would act. It is good to have this platform now for when those ideas come up.
