GBA Steering Committee Mtg 11/30/16
In Attendance: Jessica Taylor, Ed Grandi, Lorilee Wagner, Mike Booth, Janet Hovorka, Mike Provard
Next meeting: Jan 11, 2017, 2pm (MT) via join.me
Top priorities:
1) Create a membership directory. Focus could be on a directory geared towards vendors, conference organizers, and recommended support services (IT, marketing, lawyers, etc). Organized by category. Should this be a google sheet used in place of current GBA FB group form?
Membership directory in conjunction with Facebook group will provide:
a. Access to recommended specialists for group services
b. A platform for businesses to seek ideas and solutions to pain points
c. Cross-marketing opportunities
d. Pooled resources
e. One stop shop for communicating with vendors
2) Best Practices for Conferences document. This will be inserted below and committee members can comment. Will finalize in next committee meeting and distribute among vendors at RootsTech.
3) Business education – Janet will run polls in FB group. Focus: webinars, speakers as gen conference add-ons, etc. We could also consider scheduling ourselves to post educational content to the FB group weekly.
Lower priorities:
4) Increase participation in Facebook group by teaching business owners that they can opt-in to email notifications for the GBA group so they know when someone posts if they don’t regularly use facebook.
5) Jointly buying booths at non-genealogy conferences (ethnic conferences, state fairs, library conferences, etc.). Complicated – would we take sales and how, who would man booth, etc. Good way to grow the genealogy pie though
